Toys that are recalled for containing hazardous materials are accepted for free at both drop-off facilities as household hazardous waste.

When you discover you have a recalled product:

  1. Immediately take the product away from children.
  2. Follow the directions from the Consumer Product Safety Commission for returning the product to the manufacturer or retailer.  
  3. When returning the product is not an option, bring toys that contain lead or other hazardous materials to a Hennepin County Drop-off Facility (examples: toy jewelry, painted items). Remove and bring in any batteries for recycling.
  4. If the recalled product is not hazardous (example: choking hazard) and no return option is available, it may be placed in the trash.
