Bloomington Drop Off Facility Only: Corrugated cardboard has a limit of one pickup truck load or less per visit. Must be flattened. Preferred size of cardboard pieces is 3'x3'.
Cardboard and boxboard is accepted for recycling at both facilities. Cardboard and boxboard is also accepted in most curbside recycling programs - contact your hauler or city recycling coordinator for more information.
Most cardboard and boxboard is recyclable, although some is not. See below for material requirements and specifications. The accepted and not accepted applies to boxboard and cardboard brought to Hennepin County drop-off facilities; check with your hauler or city recycling coordinator for curbside recycling instructions in your area.
Boxboard
Product packaging such as food boxes and shoe boxes are made of boxboard. Boxboard is a container that is thicker than paper, yet not a stiff container - it will bend.
Accepted
- Cereal boxes, cracker boxes, pasta boxes, cake mix boxes
- Shoe boxes, gift boxes and electronics boxes
- Boxes from toothpaste, medications and other toiletries
Not accepted
- Pizza boxes, egg cartons or boxes soiled with food
- Boxes from refrigerated or frozen foods
- Milk cartons and juice boxes (select communities in Minnesota do have recycling available for this item)
Cardboard
Accepted
- Lean, uncoated cardboard
Must be flattened and not contaminated with other paper products.
Not accepted
- Boxes contaminated with food or liquid.
- Pizza or plastic/wax-lined boxes
Contaminated cardboard and boxboard
Place unusable or contaminated boxboard and cardboard in the trash.
