Containers must be 5 gallons or less in size and labeled.
Gas and fuels are accepted as Household Hazardous Waste due to flammability.
Note: For containers larger than 5 gallons or for fuels that have been mixed, please contact Determan Brownie at 763-571-8110.
Transport and handling
- For your safety, fuel should only be stored and transported in a labeled container designed to hold flammable liquid. Other containers may deteriorate and leak.
- Gas cans must be left at the facility to be emptied. You will be contacted when empty cans are ready for pick-up, usually within two weeks.
Disposal of empty, unusable gas containers
- Throw empty plastic containers, after removing the cap, in household trash. Do not put them in the recycling bin.
- Metal gas containers are accepted as scrap metal for recycling at the Bloomington Drop Off Facility only.
- Empty metal gas cans, gas tanks or fuel tanks are accepted as Solid Waste (not recycling) at the Brooklyn Park Drop Off Facility. Solid waste fees will apply.
