Not Accepted At Hennepin County Facilities.
To determine if your tree is diseased, contact your city. If your tree is diseased, your city may provide a brochure on what you need to do, along with a referral list of tree services who remove diseased trees.
If your city does not provide any assistance or information you will need to manage the disposal of your own tree. Look in the yellow pages under “tree services”. Neither Hennepin County nor the State of Minnesota has a diseased tree financial assistance program for residents.
For trees on your property, the tree should be cut down and wood waste removed, the stump should also be removed or debarked to prevent further spread of the disease or infestation. Look in the yellow pages under “tree service”. If you still need disposal options for a diseased tree after it has been cut down, see Yard Waste Drop Off Sites in Metro Area.
Trees that you believe may be diseased and are located on easements, public property or near railroads should be reported to your city.
Special note on dutch elm wood waste:
It is illegal (MN Rule 1501.0250) to keep any elm wood with bark on it (diseased or not) between April 2 and September 15.
